The good stuff is always complicated. I think I got a little carried away with my own rhetoric towards the end , the first paragraph is a truer statement of what I think of the vid overall. It is very dense and very thought-provoking and Robin both does and doesn't work as a spokesperson. I'm a little too familiar with S7 (on every other Wednesday it's my favourite season) to read the vid in isolation or disinterestedly. The critic is flawed and still working through her own prejudices.

In the episode about which so much of the debate centres (Lies My Parents Told Me) the show to some extent sets Robin in opposition to his mother's beliefs and has Buffy speak for her at the end, literally echoing Nikki's words. Arguably this is another example of the demonisation of black men that many see in the portrayal of the Shadowmen although I don't think the vid is making that particular point.
