Well I think we're reading very different S8's and before that very different TV series (with some overlap). I like to think of it as a tribute to the complexity of both sources that they can support such divergent readings (glibly). Oh I'm right with you there.
You've always said that continuity wasn't a big issue if the emotional arcs and thematics were working so I wonder if the real discontinuity lies there. Not really. Apart from the discontinuity storywise (and the writers' refusal to fill in the gaps, which is very unhelpful), it is the emotional discontinuity of the characters that I am unable to accept. The people I watched and loved for 7 years (and really, I couldn't care less *what* they were doing, as long as they were there) are not the people in s8. So, since I don't care about the characters, I don't care about their stories, it's that simple.
