Cat drama and music
A long week. My parents came to visit at the beginning of it, on their way back from staying with little brother in Texas. While K and I were out and the boys were at school dad decided to ‘fix’ the flooring in the front room. Then they were off, back to Somersetshire and the country idyl. 48 hours later we were wondering where the cat had got to when we realized the muffled squeaking noise we’d been hearing was naught but herself screaming ”Montresor” from underneath the floorboards. Five minutes with the crowbar and she emerged, filthy, hungry but very very pleased to escape.

avrelia and
spacedoutlooney were opening this to anyone who hadn’t done it yet so here goes
1. Total volume of music files on my computer:
986 MB but rising.
2. The Last CD I bought was:
Heijira by Joni Mitchell. Part of the vinyl replacement programme.
3. The Last Song I Listened To Before Writing This:
Unbelievable by EMF. Part of the ‘I should be working but I wonder if they’ve got this one on iTunes’ programme.
4. Five Songs I Have Listened To A Lot In My Life:
In chronological order:
Free Nelson Mandela by The Specials - the mental soundtrack to all those CND rallies and Marches for the Miners. So long ago.
Temptation by New Order - the song that was playing the weekend after my OneTrueLove said it was over. So I got my hair cut, bought a skanky pink dress at the second hand frock stall and went dancing. And it was good.
Dreamland by Joni Mitchell - for winters in Edinburgh when it was already dark by 3 o’clock in the afternoon and rained but never snowed.
The Man Who Got Away by Judy Garland - from show tunes for singing in the shower. I diva!
Praise you by Fat Boy Slim - for dancing with the children. We dervish!
The fifth question seems to have mutated into a general invitation and as an evolutionary biologist who I am to resist the forces of natural selection. Or drift. So I generally invite anybody who wants to do it to once more take up the baton and beat off the threat of extinction. It’ll be fun!
