I have a slight kink for for shows set in American High Schools. Probably because they seem such strange, exotic/downright weird places.
Maybe that's why I tend to dislike that setting. Shouldn't it be at least vaguely familiar to me?
I can't imagine anything even closely resembling a Glee club getting of the ground in my school.
Did your schools not have any extracurricular activities? No theater group, no writing club, no athletic teams, etc.? That's definitely not a difference I would have guessed. I mean, my high school certainly wasn't like the school in Glee (we were way too geeky for shit like cheerleading), but there was a student group that put on musicals at least once a year. Did your town have afterschool programs for younger kids?
