Maps are definitely better if you know how to use a compass. Although I suspect the biggest factor in our getting lost was Dad. I've been up there a few times with Kevin and we've got thoroughly rained on but never completely lost. Although in Dad's defence it could just be that I've been so many of the wrong ways so often that the turnings to avoid are imprinted on my brain.
