I remember the Iranian complaints but I guess I thought they related simply to Persia being Iran. I hadn't seen how close the costume choices for the Persian army were to current conceptions of Arab dress and that was shocking. It's not as if the movie were ever constrained by historical accuracy in any other respect.
The SPN discussion I was thinking of was a long one on in comments to a post by nestrahere (http://nestra.livejournal.com/202429.html). It wasn't so much that they thought the kiss in sisabet's vid was original but that manipulated kisses are a relatively new thing this year, which reflects a mixture of technical advances and social acceptance. I think such manipulations have been possible for a while but the main vidding aesthetic, even amongst slashers, has been against them. There's one section of the conversation toward the end that I though was really interesting where someone points out that it may be disconcerting because it's making visual fantasies concrete and public (at a con) without the distancing effect of text .
