My TV hates me and fails to record Ballet Shoes. The BBC hates me and won’t put it up on its iPlayer. Bah! Humbug! Kylie’s up though

Dr Who Christmas Special: Voyage of the Dammed

Like a paper chain of set pieces hung around a star it made the kind of pantomime sense that doesn’t and was none the worse for that. Darkened a little by the decision to kill all the good people and leave only the morally neutral through compromised behind. Since the BBC has been showing a different adaptation of A Christmas Carol every day in the run up to the day itself there was a certain pleasure in seeing the self-seeking capitalist bastard profit from the experience in only the monetary sense of the word. I wondered if Ten were speaking for RTD (and all writers) in asking whether deciding who lived and who died made him a monster.

The pacing has much improved since Rose but Kylie’s very physical intervention was reminiscent. She was strangely like Rose in several ways, class, character and hair colouring but older and wiser. Jackie maybe. And her turn to appear as a ghost and be gone before anything need be unsaid. La fee bleu not verte.

The three questions routine and choice of significant numbers were really well done but trumped by the Doctor’s ascension and accompanying angels fisting their way through the deck. See that’s how a true atheist should reference religious iconery. With added gay. Snap to it, going up!
