I love the complexity of the family relationships on this show. Derek being Kyle's father but also his father figure and I suppose literally an non-biological Cain to Andy's Abel but he killed him at God or duty's behest and was exiled to do so. And I really like your idea about Savannah being crucial. One of the many strange (and wonderful) things about the ending to the episode was the sight of weaver peeping benignly through the door as John Henry and Savannah sang their song. It made me think of when she told Savannah that other people wouldn't understand John Henry and of him saying he was alone. Savannah genuinely accepts him in a way even Ellison can't. He's unquestioningly a person to her.
