Backing into the limelight
So we’ve had our 5 easy pieces now the symphony begins. Willow brings home the carryout (that’s a Scottish joke less chips). Satsu’s already tired of the normal game. Faith knows her history, Andrew seems less certain of his – wasn’t it First!Warren not Warren!Warren who tempted him with godhood? Or was that just what we thought at the time. Was the First actually tempting Warren!Warren to tempt Andrew!Andrew via some fancy astral projection of his skinless self? But why bother when First!Warren could do the job just as well itself? Unless Warren wasn’t dead yet. Maybe Amy did save him but in a fit of rage triggered by discovering that killing Jonathon didn’t godify him he suffered a temporary aneurysm and was down just long enough for the First to do its own Warren thing in Never Leave Me. Sure, that would work. But is it funny?
Making sure to knock before bursting in on Buffy, that’s funny. Dawn and Xander turn up together. I thought Dawn/Buffy was the ultimate reconciliation in the series that began with Satsu and Kennedy bonding, showed Andrew he was part of the team and brought Faith and Giles back into the game. But nothing trumps a Buffy/Giles reunion and Buffy finally has someone she can talk about Willow with. Willow the vampire flayer (OK only monsters were harmed in the course of this interrogation but still). In an issue with so much talk of bad precedents this just can’t be good. One last spell and then there are yaks. Oz saying the Oz thing. The gang’s all here.
Dream a little dream
This dream begins with an accusation. People are always telling the girl she has darkness inside her. It’s the first article of patriarchy after all. Women are other, other is dangerous, monstrous, uncivillised, needs to be controlled. Her two shadowy men make like Athenians, bros before hos. Maybe Caleb is Buffy’s subconscious but this looks like a slayer dream. A warning. She’s buying into self-supression, to being more normal than normal, a bride at last. It saves lives but it may be worth remembering who she heard it from first.
