Weird day. Schools out for summer and I’m working from home. So in between counting spots on odd bits of insect viscera, elder son’s wanting the index to ‘Delia Smith’s Vegetarian Collection’ reading out loud and out in the real world it’s all live action ‘MI5/Spooks.’

Whatever.

Once upon a time there was a nice middle-class boy who went to a party where there were drugs. Being Randy Newman and not Harlan Ellison, he wrote a song rather than a story about the experience. It was covered by Three Dog Night and became a minor hit in 1970, then Tom Jones and the Stereophonics produced an almost identical version in 1999.

Coming across a copy of the 1970 single while trawling the iTunes catalogue, I was suddenly reminded of one Wesley Wyndham Pryce back in the days when he first came to Sunnydale and discovered that monsters weren’t just pictures in books. Somehow this turned into a vid about Wes and his various relationships with women. You can download it from here.

On the last day in NFA he did exactly what he knew was needed. They needed Illyria on top form, so he took care of that. He always defined himself as someone who would do what was needed, despite the personal cost. Once 'what was needed' was a decision that was taken by someone else, his Father, the Watchers Council (hence trying to capture Faith in BtVS), but without that he had to decide for himself. He was however as bad as Angel at taking decisions collectively. Perhaps his ultimate desire was to be that man. Very complex character!

I had a love/hate relationship with the stubble, but am I wrong to think he was very sexy when he started playing with guns? I think the psycho-analysis needed to figure that out would be beyond my meagre budget. :-)

Feeling kind of antsy about RL guns right now. Apparently the Sun was running the headline "One Down Three To Go." TV guns? I thought it was cool in that S1 episode when he shot the gas cannister Angel threw. I think that may have been the first time Wes was ever really competent at something. I like me some competent.
