BSG 4.3 The Ties that Unravel
Apr. 19th, 2008 05:43 pmAssuming this wasn’t a dream brought on by being read too much Caprican pulp noir before bedtime, I hope the thirteenth tribe did make it to Earth because if they didn’t the way things are going there’s going to be no intelligent life forms left in the galaxy by next Saturday. Maybe Doc Cottle and (by virtue of not appearing on camera) Caprica Six. Although Tory was sane when she was sober, albeit in an ruthlessly evil, othered woman kind of way. I think I like Tory.
It was rather compulsively watchable probably because rather than in spite of feeling like an episode of Eastenders in Space. Well apart from the Kara/Anders scene which was more like Spuffy Badfic in Space. Space makes everything better but, like most addictive things you’re not addicted to, the morning after is much more “I am never, never doing that again,” than “need more crack.” But I’ll still be back next week hoping it’s the dark before dawn rather than the train at the end of the tunnel.

Date: 2008-04-21 01:14 am (UTC)And I was a huge Spuffy fan. *laughs at self*
I loved the episode's nihilism, actually. I do feel the strain of the continued loss of characters. It makes me speculate about strange things. Like... maybe this is all Bobby's dream and we'll wake up in Starbuck's apartment back on Caprica with Lee coming out of the shower. LOL.
More seriously, I'm getting a bit of a "And Then There Were None" feeling. And, of course, the one who will be revealed could end up being any one of the dozen or so minor/major players that have been offed over the last three years.
I. Just. Can't. Look. Away.

I probably sounded more crotchety than I feel about the ep - Eastenders (BBC flagship miserablist, non-aspirational soap) can be really good in short doses. I think I'm going to be re-watching this one again and again on the DVDs but won't be able to process it properly until after the next week.

Date: 2008-04-19 08:39 pm (UTC)Zarek and Cavil both did well on the short term sanity front but it's hard to see any long term aim that isn't completely batshit. Lee was annoying and obviously out of his depth this week and I've been OK with him previously. Don't have a problem with unmanly men and I figured he probably did have more to offer on the civilian front than as a burnt out pilot. But he screwed things up for Laura. Bad Lee! (Even if Bad Laura).
