Briefly surfacing because it’s my posting day at [livejournal.com profile] buffy_love. Which got me thinking about the dearth of Buffy character vids being a shame because the few that exist are all remarkable and in very different ways. So here are some recommendations from the past year or so:

Walk the Walk by Nicole Annell is almost the perfect Buffy song. Although she doesn’t so much talk about being an iconoclast as just go out and be one. Plenty of beautifully edited action with a dip into the horror of it for the bridge followed by the ultimate come back.

Scooby Road by luminosity. Do I need to rec this? It is, as sisabet pointed out in her review, called Scooby and not Slayer road but every track has a Buffy to it according to Lum. Even when she’s only momentarily present as in Something. Seven seasons in 40 minutes. Go. Download. Or if you have it already you know you want to play it again. Go on. It’s just one little click.

Polaroid Millennium by gywnneth. Snapshots of a death foretold. Strictly this is a Buffy-Giles vid but cladistics be dammed it’s a beautiful, elegiac piece of work showing the sadder wiser Buffy of the later years. Maybe it’s the Giles of it but the whole vid has an almost English feel throughout, very Brief Encounter out of For Whom We Serve that acts in poignant counterpoint to the daylight candy colouring of much of the action/inaction.

Without a Sound by Butterfly This one really expresses the resilience of the girl. You knock her down but she gets up again and the ending blending her first return from death with the not quite final shot of Chosen, as she faces her open road, is both inspired and inspiring.

Suburbia by Dualbunny A short Buffy vidlet beautifully edited and again drawing out the links between her beginnings and her end but here focussing heartbreakingly on her darkest before dawn moments. This is my beaten down, existentialist, season seven Buffy who feels every killing of every potential Slayer because it happened to her, she was that girl, she died that death, she knows.

Oh thanks for the list - I've only got 2 of those! I'd probably add 'Coin Operated Boy' by [livejournal.com profile] sdwolfpup. Oh and 'Blaze of Glory' by [livejournal.com profile] wendylouwho. Must run again!

I love Coin Operated Boy, I just always think of it as a relationships vid although it's Buffy through her relationships of course. Will definitely check out 'Blaze of Glory' though.

Thank you! I loved "Walk the Walk". It's all that I love about Buffy, to music. On the same site, "Sweet Child of Mine" is a lovely Angel/baby Connor vid.
Going to rec this to the rest of my flist!

Sorry about the link, it's a direct one to the vid file itself so you needed to right click for it to work. I've changed it to link to the original post in lum's journal. more feedback opportuinites that way too. Thanks for the Angel/baby rec, I'll definitely check that out.

Agree completely about the first two, of course. Hadn't seen the others. Quite liked Suburbia. I hadn't thought much about how fighting the ubervamp might have recalled her experience with the Master.

she was that girl, she died that death, she knows.
Yes, that really came through very well.

I think it was your rec that I found "Walk the Walk" through it's one that's really stayed with me. Also hadn't thought specifically about the ubervamp being the Master, I'd noticed the Harvest reference in Bring on the Night when she escpaes from the lair but never followed the connection through. And they even look alike!

They do! I remember thinking when I first saw the ubervamp that it recalled the Master, and I assumed that was because the Master was "reverting" to the demon form over time (wasn't that the explanation for his and Kakisto's difference from other vamps)? Problem is the ubervamps look nothing like the Angelbeast in Pylea, and supposedly that's what the demon looks like underneath ::head scratch::

Yes "Walk the Walk" is the perfect song for Buffy and it was nicely vidded. Love pairing that with Luminosity's "Sex on Wheels" for Angel :>

Maybe Angel really is speshul. Some kind of hopeful monster in the evolution of vampirekind?

Love pairing that with Luminosity's "Sex on Wheels" for Angel
Hee. So which Spike vid would make up the OT3? Vyra's "Schism?' Or maybe "Glorious" by Here's Luck?

Darn, tried to find a copy of "Glorious" but it looks like it's not available online right now.

I might well go along with "Schism" for Spike, it was a great vid idea and a perfect theme for him. My only caveat would be that some of the extra repetitiveness near the end could be remastered in favor of including the end of his arc on AtS S5. That would really nail it.

Oh, I love you for making this list! I've seen all of them except for "Walk the Walk" and your new vid, and I plan on downloading both as soon as I get some free time (dial-up connection = sloooow downloads). The only vid I can think of to add to the list, and I'm sure you've seen it, is [livejournal.com profile] sisabet's "Peacekeeper".

It's been in my head a while so it was fun to make:)

Peacekeeper is a difficult one for me beacause although I love it with the sound off, I think I must have some supressed childhood trauma involving Fleetwood Mac. Which is frustrating because with this single exception, one of the reasons I find sisbet's vids so exceptional is the way they've broadened my musical horizons.
